A New Year – The Solemnity of Mary
There was a movement in the history of the ancient church, when the council of Ephesus defined the Divine motherhood of the Virgin Mary, the Theotokos. The truth of her Divine maternity. The folks of that time would invoke her by calling out her name three times saying, “Mother of God, Mother of God, Mother of God!”
May she, the Holy Spirit dwell with you.
The Beatles had a way of invoking her as well; “When I find myself in times of trouble mother Mary comes to me, speaking words of wisdom, let it be.”
In Matthew some excerpts:
“Ye are the light of the world! Let your lights shine for His glory.” Do good for each other without expectation or the need for notoriety.
“Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them, otherwise ye have no reward of your father in heaven. Therefore when thou doest thine alms, (when we do good works), do not sound a trumpet before them as the hypocrites.”
There is a light of life within each of us, a Divine Spark, and we have opportunity each day to do something for another, as small as it may seem at times. The intention should be with a humble and unconditional loving heart, not for fanfare or marquis lights saying look what I did. We all want to be acknowledged and accolade for good works done and that is fine but humbly, not under the sneaky disguise and shadows of pride.
“The light of the body is the eye; if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. Be ye perfect…”
The light of the body is the eye, not eyes plural. If thine eye be single, what does that mean? This is one of those occasions of the esoteric side of what we can discover in the stories of the bible. There are always varying opinions. Some say it means to think only Christ-like, which is fair, understandable and literal. The pineal gland is sometimes referred to as this single eye and there is plenty of information to corroborate this line of thought. Depending where you are in your own spiritual journey, ultimately the discovery of these things are up to you to decide for yourselves.
In any case the general idea is made, let your light shine, good works done with a humble heart. Call it karma, or you will reap what you sow. In this new year, this new day, from the moment we rise to the moment we end our day we are filled with decisions to make. From the simple to the great, it is life. We talk this time of the year about resolutions and new plans, with the arrogance that we have the year in our hands already. Tomorrow is not promised. Have you been given a guarantee? The pomp and circumstance of celebration is over, now what?
This new day and each that you are gifted have in them the good, bad and the ugly to occupy your time and energy. You don’t have to wait for the celebration of a New Year to understand that each day is a celebration of life. There will be many today who will finish there days and many who will begin there first, this is life. The revolutions of the soul, the cycle of our lives take place regardless of celebrations. This is not to take away from the joys of celebration but it is the reality of life.
CARPE DIEM!!! Seize the day, for we know not our time and these moments are all we truly have, ever moving onward. Remember to let your light shine.
